So second gets to rename second to last, and third gets to rename third to last? Or the winner get to rename all?

Guess it's time to go ahead and hand Yu Darvish and Matt Harvey the Cy Youngs, then?
-
Indeed. And, as we all know, how a pitcher performs in his first start of the year is a CLEAR and time-honored indicator of his likely full season performance!
-
That might be one of the stranger pitcher rate stats scores I've ever seen as far as the gaps between ERA/FIP/tERA and WHIP/xFIP/SIERA.
-
so far so good for ervin santana!
-
why didn't i set my lineups for the next two days. stupid rules
-
yeah, we're trying to work out a trade, and might just do a tradeback, but if you can do it manually that might be helpful. Thanks!
-
Stanford Yanks, you still trying to fix this trade? Email me if you need some additional help.

weird that all three fantasy-relevant Santanas have been traded in the past week
-
yeahh i guess the 100% guarantee of having the salary absorbed into someone's roster is a little better than just cutting the guy loose and hoping. still, might have been better to ask around about Santana beforehand
-

Jesus Montero's on waivers for anybody that wants him
-
The upside for Josh is guaranteeing he's not responsible for the salary. That's a value on its' own. MLB allows players to be traded for functionally nothing (Wil Nieves to the Braves in 2011 after the McCann injury for $1)
-
Hey guys, there's a glitch in this ottoneu page (on ipad possibly) I hit reject on a trade and it registered it as an accept. Where do I report bugs?
-
I seem to remember a similar deal involving Carlos Pena or someone causing some controversy last season
-
Yeah I mean if you're planning on keeping him it's a good deal for you, I guess I just don't see what the upside in giving Johan away for free (as opposed to cutting him) is for Josh. I mean whatever it's not like he's that valuable anyway but...
-
Johan's a high-risk, low-reward option, so I wasn't going to give up anything to attempt to pick him up, but if the cost to me was just having to own him, I can live with that, given my team's cap room.

Could very easily be useless and be forced to retire, but I've got the cap room to take the gamble now. CBB benefits by getting cap space from not having to hold/cut Johan.

I'm eating the cap hit for holding Johan, maybe he gets better after this round, etc. He's on the 60-day, so it's a free roster spot, and I've got the cap room to burn, so I benefit because he "could" help next year.

Either DBA keeps Santana, in which case he got an unfair leg up on the rest of the league in giving up literally nothing to get him, or he cuts him, in which case he essentially gave CBB cap room for free. Or is there something I'm missing?
-
I'm sure there are no bad intentions on either side but like... that's a favor, not a trade.
-
I also don't buy into the whole HR/FB%-as-luck-stat thing. You really think all fly balls are created equal? Like, that absurdly high HR rate just isn't a red flag?
-
and for $5 too...
-
I mean basically I see an extremely limited upside (like what are you hoping for, a 4.4 FIP? innings limit just not high enough that 180 innings of that is worth owning), coupled with a huge downside--more than decent chance that the guy is just cooked
-
The HR/FB spike was the only significant change in his stat line. I don`t think he pitches another season with a HR/FB rate that would rank top-20 for hitters league-wide.
-
Differences between 2012 and 2011 were a slight dip in K%, back to his 2009/2010 levels, an almost identical batted ball profile, a SwStr% that was dead-on 8.4%, in line with the previous 3 seasons (8.5, 8.5, 8.4 in 2009-2011)
-
He had a historically bad HR/FB season, but other than the HR/FB rate, wasn`t that far out of line with his prior good seasons. You don`t own him for upside, you own him to throw a shitton of decent innings, which he`ll probably do.
-
someone who's ownable in this format.
-
I mean, yeah, seeing that he was the worst full-time starter in baseball last year (and it wasn't even all that close) dude's likely to regress to the mean a little bit, but I'd put extremely long odds on him "bouncing back" to...
-
Santana has averaged 6.5 innings a start and 197 IP a season. I don't see how he can possibly repeat a 19% HR/FB rate, so I think he's a pretty good bounce-back candidate.
-
I may just. I may also cut him. But he's worth a gamble. As a back end guy, he does have some history. By the way, I'm in for any buy-in.

also, haven't heard most of the rest of the league chiming in on a buy-in. I think it's too late for this year (though I'd still be down), but I'll be pushing for one next year.
-
Molten Wang's trading block has been updated!
-
The cap space is big though, particularly for a team in DBA's position, though I wonder how valuable it will be this year--weak draft crop, most top prospects already owned. Also seems like Gausman could emerge (has emerged?) as a potential frontline guy.
-
Not sure what to think of this Bautista deal. At first blush the return looks a bit light--not a huge Martin fan, and AL East pitching prospects always scare me a little bit.
-
Just trying to stir the pot a little bit, haha. You really planning on keeping Ervin Santana?

Domonic Brown's Abs's trading block has been updated!
-
Taillon might be a better prospect than Arcia, but Arcia is the superior value by a lot. That and the fact that DBA gained a lot of cap room makes it a pretty solid win for him.
-
The latest deal is weird too. I am perplexed as to how Ervin Santana was even kept, much less how he still has any trade value whatsoever. He'd be a bad deal at $1.
-
I don't know why he'd be sending away a useful guy like Ethier if he's trying to win this year.
