Guys, We have an opening in an NL only keeper league that I am the commissioner. One guy just bailed on us. It is a $300 entry fee. There is not a lot on the team that left, but I promise you the player pool for the auction draft is deep this year. Lots of great players. If anyone is interested please let me know and I can send you more details. Draft is next Thursday 3/28 7pm eastern. Site is On-Roto.com
Thanks, Bob

Who you calling a monkey, horsefish???

The Tallahassee Horsefishermen Club's trade block has been updated!
-
...I already had a beer. Gonna have to jump to bourbon for my next drink.
-
Don't accept, Monkey! Whatever Tallahassee's offer is, I'll double it!
-
Yeah, for sure - definitely not saying anyone is screwing anyone else over. I just wanted to make sure we all understood cap space/drops/waivers. I understood the one-player moves in terms of cut penalty/roster space, etc. I just didn't get the cut after that. Valid points all around. Good talk, league.
-
monkey grab a beer and then accept my trade offer. i know you want to.
-
ya i agree. i feel bad that he cut him now tho
-
Lol, it's a non-issue. Just weird.
-
For fucks sake I NEED A BEER
-
I don't think you screwed anyone over. It's just really odd seeing these deals go through with nothing being exchanged from the other side. It looked fishy when Vermont immediately dropped Choo when he clearly has the roster space. From an outsiders perspective it could appear that maybe Vermont is quitting for 2019 and was helping you to get rid of Choo without the cap hit. I'm not necessarily saying that's what happened here. Not sure what, if anything really needs to be done about it.
-
i mean to be fair i did offer choo for nothing to anyone in the league who had cap space. he seemed like he was worth $5 to me during the draft but afterwards i just wanted the roster flexibility. i guess lake monsters messed up his budgeting when he accepted. i didnt mean to screw anyone over.
-
The Dalh/Robles example isn't the same...If you wanted a shot at them, you should've made an offer.
-
For sure, the $1 player is a different situation. However "missing out" on a traditional player-for-player trade because you weren't offered it isn't the same as someone not wanting to eat salary and just offering a "free" player to a team. I'm not saying it's necessarily wrong, but I can see 1) How other owners may have an issue and 2) How this could become a much bigger problem if situations arise involving more useful players.
-
But isn't that with all trades? I would have loved to made a offer for Dahl or Robles but they made that trade without any offers to me. If I cut a $4 player, I get $2 back. But if I cut a $1 player I have to eat his salary, seeing that Vermont is trying to fill out his squad and did accept a similar deal before. I sent him and 2 others the same trade
-
I get that Bird, but also keep in mind how waivers work. If you cut him and Vermont wants him, he can bid on waivers. You'll eat the salary until someone gets him, but at least then the entire league has a chance to bid. I just worry if we get into this habit, only people being offered these types of trades will get the opportunity, or people are going to start throwing out offers for one player only. Slippery slope.
-
Choo one was weird. But I sent a $1 guy to VCM to see if he would want him since his roster needs players, rather then me cutting him and still having to pay his $1 salary
-
I can understand trading certain players where the benefit of an open slot and more cap space is worth more than the player, if someone has interest and wants to take on that player and their salary. However, I'm not understanding the team then cutting them later and taking the cap penalty when their roster is half full.
-
What is up with "trading" a player for literally nothing in return? I've never seen that in any league I've ever been a part of. Not only that, but the first time it happened, Choo ends up dropped by the acquiring team (who currently is only rostering 21 players) less than 24 hours later. I don't see the benefit other than VLM taking on the salary penalty as a favor to the other teams.
-
That was super helpful. Thanks.

Auction*** Let me know if you want screenshots I can share on Slack
-
Go to the players header page. From there we can get all the stats for ALL players, but system is limited and cannot pull for both hitters and pitchers. So for FA's click on free agents only and then unclick SP and RP then search to view all hitting free agents. Then when looking for pitchers only click SP and RP to view pitching free agents. So I see Rajai Davis for example I will click on his name and a new window will open up with his stats. Under his name you should see a button to start auct
-
I click on players, then any position filter except all, that one doesnβt seem to work, there are options for free agents only and minors

If you're going to read only one article I post, read this one. It's long, but really does a fantastic job. An Ottoneu vet reached out to me and shared his strategy after I managed to sound confused on the forum. Haha. Here is the link:

Thanks!

I guess those "n"s at the beginning of each link were my line breaks in an attempt to format. Make sure you delete those when you copy/paste the link. Also, the FanGraphs community forums and the Ottobeu slack site are two extremely valuable sources of information about Ottoneu strategy. There are lots of friendly and resourceful folks on both sites that will almost instantly answer just about any question you may have.

Hey guys. I'm really excited about this league. I'm hoping we have a community here that will provide hefty competition for years to come. I am new to Ottoneu, and I think there are a few others like me in this league. I want to share some of the more helpful online articles and tools that I found while trying to figure out what the hell I'm going to do to compete in Ottoneu. Here are some links:

We seem to have a great group of owners here; one stupid trade isn't going to ruin it. Again, I will not be using the commish tools to veto this. Please vote as you see fit. Majority is needed, per rules. Revisit the rules (upper right) and settings of our league. Search for some articles on Ottoneu. Big loans aren't uncommon. $500+ cap isn't uncommon. I get the issues expressed with this specific trade. Let's try to settle this as a league and move on.

Forearm Tightness's trade block has been updated!

The Tallahassee Horsefishermen Club's trade block has been updated!

...with that being said, I understand the issues here. The loan system is unique; I can see how it can be confusing. I WILL NOT BE VETOING THIS DEAL - there was no collusion. Ottoneu, however, does have a veto button available to each and every one of you. It's within the rules; use at as you see fit. I just hope this doesn't become a regular thing. Trades will happen you don't like. This is a competition.
-
Hey all, thanks for some excellent reading this afternoon! First of all...It is very much my intention that this league go on as an awesome, active, competitive league for as long as Ottoneu sticks around. To be clear: I am and always have been 100000% no-veto unless clear-cut collusion is going down. Bad trades happen; solid trades happen - trades that looked one-sided end up working out the other way. Injuries happen, unexpected breakouts happen...character limit? really?!
-
he made a trade involving Scherzer and a loan. he didnt realize the loan has value on it's own. he can use that $66 to trade for prospects to other teams all year long. just because it doesnt transfer over doesnt mean it doesnt have value... basically he traded 2 things thinking only 1 had any value because he didnt fully grasp the concept of the league/rules. how are u arguing that's fair to him and the rest of the league???
-
A $66 loan isn't crippling and it's almost expecting if you're looking to deal an $80 Scherzer for depth. Hell, as of end of season this year, that is a fantastic trade for LT moving forward and rebuilding. 100% chance Scherzer is cut and that loan is literally meaningless, that doesn't carry over at all. Quite simply, at this point, vote to veto or not. I don't see how arguing our subjective valuations is going to do anything productive.
-
when he made the offer he didn't realize the value of the loan... so let's set aside our subjectivity of player values and agree that Scherzer has substantial value and a $66 loan has substantial value. Since he didn't understand that the $66 loan has a ton of value on it's own when he made the offer i think it should be vetoed. It's a new concept to a lot of people and this could really cripple him...
-
From a purely financial perspective (loan) the trade is fine. There will be several teams (hopefully anyway) that will have in excess of $500 in cap space due to loans. They'll need to make cuts in the off-season to get back below $400 to account for that. The problem with this trade is the lack of current or future talent Lucifer is getting back for giving up Scherzer. It's tooooo lopsided. For me that's the issue. It has nothing to do with what the finances look like post trade.
-
I did read them and I understand the bid system and as I said, the loan "part" of the league is what's new to me. I understand why some people don't like this trade and I'll accept whatever is decided.

Did you read the Ottoneu rules, LT? There's also a ton of resources online in articles and forums on Fangraphs. You're really going to put yourself in a bad place without understanding the loan and bid system.
