Definitely not doing a full redraft. I'm thinking something like free cuts for a week and giving everyone the option of having 1 player salary reduced by 15% as long as that player wasn't a top 50 player last year or something. Cuts are free in the off-season but this was the first time most of the owners did an auction draft like this so the idea is to create a little bit of flexibility without reducing the league to ruin.
-
Yeah some free cuts would be fantastic

I would prefer not to do a redraft. If this truly is meant to be a dynasty league then in year 2 wouldn't most of this be evened out? The owners who have overvalued players have the option to cut those players and let the rebidding process correct this issue? Just thinking out loud here.
-
I'm okay with a limited amount (~2-3) free cuts. I already cut Porcello to free up a little cash so I don't think I'll cut anyone else.

I've seen other leagues do similar and is the only reason I'm floating it since this is year 1. Limits could be imposed but either way wanted to throw this out before the beginning of the season.
-
The idea behind it is I want this league to truly exist as a dynasty. I don't want people to be afraid to pay $20 again next year to rebuy their team if they feel they overextended. This was a first time draft for a lot of people and short of the entire league just redrafting this seemed like a decent way to balance. Unless everyone just wants to roll as is and people have to maneuver around all the contracts. If you don't keep a guy in the off season you get the cap space and they are a FA
-
Also something I want to throw out after looking at all the rosters: If majority voted, I was considering allowing some free cuts that wouldn't penalize teams. There's quite a bit of players that went for exceptionally high amounts that really handtied some teams. I won't be specific but there's actually more than I thought across the league. Basically you could dump some guys you feel you overpaid for and everyone gets to do it, then those players could be rebid. this would be one time only
-
So I was looking into this 2 catcher thing because I couldn't figure out why the roster showed 2 C. And came across something in the rules that we all definitely missed. It's set up that way for platoon purposes and not because it's actually a 2 C league. So keep in mind that your C position only gets 162 games started for the year. You can absolutely start 2 C on a regular basis but if they are starters you will use up almost all your games super early. Keep this in mind moving forward.

This is not a H2H it's Fangraphs Points scoring. The playoffs are the only time during the season where teams will play H2H. The Japan games will be counted so any players who are a part of that series should start accumulating points when they happen.

Also wondering about that.. the Japan games, and if there is a schedule that will show up with matchups closer to the start of the year.
-
This is a H2H scoring league, correct? Any idea when the first week begins? I'm assuming the games in Japan next week will not count towards anything.

Not that I'm aware. Basically I think it's like a secondary bench so you know they aren't in the MLB and don't add them to your starting lineup.
-
So, question. It looks like I can designate any player for "minors." What does that mean? Does it allow me to sign more players or something?

Just wanna thank everyone for a very successful draft. I had a lot of fun and it feels like this is gonna be a really fun league. Considering I had to get up at 5 am and work all day I also appreciate how swift the draft went. Looking forward to the season and good luck!

Draft day! Finally, friendly reminder that the draft is this evening at 4 PM EST. If you will be running late please email me to let me know. We can wait a few minutes for everyone to get online but we're definitely firing tonight one way or the other.
See you there!

Also adding on to Santa Fe's point about the watchlist: you don't HAVE to do anything elaborate like that. You get 30 seconds to nominate and you can sort the players by position and go down through for someone to nominate. So even if you don't have someone specific in mind, you'll be able to view a list of players to nominate.
-
Here is a video link that was given to me to watch in order to see the flow of the draft, https://youtu.be/cZxgR25aJaY I found it very helpful.
-
Having a good idea about who to nominate helps quite a bit. If you add players to a "watchlist", you can import this watchlist into a nominate box. That way you do not have to go searching for someone to nominate. They are right in front of you.
-
Tagging onto the first post with bidding, you can enter any amount you want and it will bid up to that. So if you're willing to pay 50 for someone you can just skip the B.S. and enter 50 and the player will shoot up to that amount. If we're going to maintain a good rhythm we will probably need to do a good job of doing this, versus sitting and bidding 1 dollar at a time. Obviously that is going to happen and there aren't hard rules or anything to this. Just a general tip to help quicken.
-
I cannot stress enough how long this will take, even if we have a good pace. Please, please, please plan on being able to draft for a while. If you're tight on time I would highly recommend at least trying to be here for the early portion so you can bid in on some of the star players. There is a waiver/auction process after the draft so people can fill rosters. We don't HAVE to fill the 40 during the draft but obviously need to draft a big chunk of it.
-
The league I drafted in last night was with a team I took over. Most teams had around 20 players or so as keepers so that left 20 open spots so over 200 players were drafted. We started around 9 PM and the draft went to like 1 AM. So you can imagine how long a brand new draft will take. Plan accordingly. If you have to leave the draft, there is an option at the bottom to check that will keep the draft from falling on you to nominate.
-
To help with valuing players, I recommend opening the "Players" tab alongside the draft and when a player is nominated search them so you can see the average salary they have in all Ottoneu leagues. That DOES NOT mean that's the maximum their worth or that it should be higher or lower. It's just the average. I saw tons of guys go for double the average last night and stars go for less. Remember, we all have $400 to field a 40 man roster. Build your team how you see fit.
-
Small draft primer since we're getting close with a few tidbits. Did my first Ottoneu draft last night and just some observations to help everyone and hopefully get the draft to move quicker:
-You cannot snipe bid. Whenever a bid is placed, the time resets and cycles back down. So there's really no point in waiting until the absolute last second to bid on someone. All it does is reset the clock and let everyone have a chance at them. Have an idea of what you're willing to pay, don't wait.
-
It looks like most people are going to be able to make it so maybe it isn't necessary. But the option is there for anyone who needs it. For example if you send me a list saying you're willing to pay $45 for a player, and the draft is going on I will announce to the lobby the amount you're willing to bid when the amount gets to that point. Obviously if the player is only up to $30 or something you won't be forced to pay the max. That'll just be what I'm permitted on your behalf to bid up to.
-
Alright it's official then. March 9 at 4 PM EST. In the event that you absolutely cannot make it, if it is acceptable to everyone, then message me some kind of list with your highest bids you're willing to make on whatever players and I will bid on your behalf. I don't think you can actually do this in the draft lobby. I don't care how big the list is, or even if it's just a handful of the superstar players that you're willing to overpay for since you aren't here.
-
I will make what ever you guys make it work
-
4pm sounds great
-
I can get behind as early as 4 pm start time.
-
I'm all for starting earlier on a Saturday. Whether it's a couple hours or mid afternoon, whatever works best.
-
If it's a Sat/Sun, I think we should start earlier, esp. if you're looking at it taking potentially 6+ hours. Sorry for the delay in response, been down sick the last few days. I clicked in the doodle poll that Sat/Sun 2/3 and 9/10 are best (and really all that will work) for me. I'd suggest a start time somewhere in the 2:00 PM -4:00 PM EST window. thoughts?

Doodle poll seems pretty clear that March 9 is the best date. It pretty much either has to be the 2 or 9 and the 9th has more votes.
Do we keep it at 7 or try for 6 EST?

Again want to reiterate that these can take a serious amount of time. 4 to 8 hours depending on participation and attention being paid. Remember we are filling 40 man rosters not a traditional sized fantasy team.
We can make concessions on delaying for everyone to a point but with the season starting the 28th we have to be firm to a certain degree to allow for the possibility it doesn't finish in one night.
