Go cold weather team!

Go Chargers Henry
-
Hi everyone. I wrote up a league constitution in a Google doc. You can access it here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1jTckkRIMlsV8Z8KNfsBnYXPR_RhAC3kFsLze0nYHTbI/edit?usp=sharing
-
Shareable google doc would work.
-
Better write it up.
-
It's always better to have it documented I think

I hope it's Henry so he has to mail some Hill Farmstead or The Alchemist
-
Finishing 12th here would be utter humiliation
-
Shall I write this all up in a doc that can be emailed to everyone, or you think it's been sufficiently documented here?
-
OK then. Sounds good to me. This is definitely an impactful tax that will be seriously considered as part of all deals. I like it because it meets the objective of the league charter.
-
Agreed. No refunds if you go back under the cap later.
-
I figured 1:1, for simplicity. For example if a loan takes an owner from below $425 to a $450 cap, they owe $25. They can work within this $450 cap, but if they get another loan to $460, they owe $10. But what if the owner makes an outgoing loan and drops their cap to $425, then takes a loan in another direction to go back to $450? I vote that they owe another $25. This simplifies record keeping since any trade is looked at in situ.
-
Initially, it was proposes as either 50 cents on the dollar or dollar for dollar. Scrolling through the messages, I think we settled on dollar for dollar. But there's no reason we couldn't switch.
-
I like the constitution and Im good with the date, as long as Mikey can make it. For clarification, what is the tax rate on salaries between 425 and 500? Is it a 1:1 or some less rate? I nominate Mikey as accountant, which will reduce the burden on the commish.
-
Also, Mikey said he wasn’t available until 7:15 on 2/9, So I’m making that the tentative draft setting. I could go until we finish, but that’ll be well past midnight heading into Monday morning. It’s gonna require a 2nd night, I’m afraid, which we can try to schedule now or leave for then. I’d prefer to start earlier on a different Sunday and finish. Y’all let me know.
-
That all looks fine to me. Let’s expand the arb protection to 8th. We don’t want 9-10 tanking the final week to get to order beer from 12.
-
Ok
-
Ditto.
-
Yes to all for me.
-
Do we then have a draft date (Feb 9 at 6pm eastern) AND a constitution ($425 til 6/1, $500 after, commish cancels violating trades, taxes due immediately, $50 prize pool, 50/25/15/10, 5-7th place protect 1 player, 12 owes 11 a sixer, taxes roll over to next years prize pool)?
-
Seemed like 2/9 6pm EST had fewest objections.
-
So have we officially settled on a draft date /.time for this league?

I mean I’m not planning on finishing 11 or 12, but just sayin’.
-
Yes it is a hardship to be avoided, packaging in bubble wrap, going to.ups . I do it frequently and it's a bit of a drag
-
Just so you know, shipping costs to anchorage could equal the buy in amount alone.
-
No dollar penalty for the 12th team except the beer. That's a dollar penalty and a hardship.
-
12th team has to send 11th team a six pack of local beer
-
... if this makes bookkeeping issues, I volunteer to help.
-
I vote yes on the first three points of Hitch's proposal (arbitration protections being the third point). I like the idea of penalizing the 12th place team, but losing a player seems harsh and makes a bad team even less competitive. Double buy-in next year also seems harsh, unless that just means an extra $20 penalty (rather than $70). I vote for a $20 penalty to the last place team with the $20 either going to the league winner or into next year's pot. Also,...
-
I like this prize money dispensation, including the inclusion of 4th place money. I'm neutral on the protect-a-player idea. An alternate idea is to say that every manager who hits a respectable number of IP and GP gets to protect a player. Alternatively, say every manager that hits 15000 points gets to protect a player. I'd rather incentivize teams to win than penalize the last place team.
-
Sounds like there is a consensus on the main issue that got us here, the cap, as outlined in Henry's notes below. My take on the rest: 1. $20 to Otto, $50 to a prize pool 2. 50%-25-15-10 for 1-2-3-4. Let 5-6-7 protect a player from arbitration, if you want extra incentive. In order to eliminate total tank jobs, penalize 12th with something like a. double buy-in the following year or b. gets one player voted off. Would be a battle for 11th. Take all tax money and put in the next season's pool.
-
I don't see any reason to collect $ to payout if you're paying more than like 4 places. Once you're paying half the league, you might as well just make it a free league and play for pride. I'd assumed both leagues were gonna be $20 to ottoneu and $50 to the prize pool, but sounds like that wasn't a wide-shared understanding. Someone else probably needs to take over commissionership of this thing, as there's gonna have to be a significant amount of managing a consensus that I lack the patience 4
-
(1) I would support paying something to 11 of 12 teams to keep up interest, though clearly no enough to cover the entry fee; (2) since this is the league where we'll be spreading the payout more, why don't we keep the other league as the $20 league and make this the one with the extra pay-in? (3) I would support non-monetary payouts/penalties rather than messing with the $$ (assuming we can agree on the currency); (4) Feb 9th I'm not available until 7:15 pm est, but I could do it then.
-
Wasn't there a discussion at some point about adding cap space/draft dollars based on where a team finishes?
-
Works for me.
-
I suggest draft Saturday Feb 9 , 5 pm est. Beer , wine, or whiskey in hand. No autumnal mead. Drunking drafting is fun
-
Again, just spit-balling. I haven't developed any thoughts that I'm ready to advocate.
-
Then again, maybe it's better to spread the cash around to more placings. Seems that if the prizes are structured very heavily to the top, big spenders would not actually be paying a penalty for that spending, but see it coming right back into their own pockets.
-
That's just one idea, put forward without much thought. The important point is that we can be creative, this is the league for that. I'm sure others could come up with much better ideas, that would still preserve the cash incentives for just the top 3 places.
-
Remember that there are ways to provide incentives for lower finishing teams other than cash. If this is a league for trying out ideas, how about from 4th to 11th place these teams get to pick a player off the roster of the team finishing immediately below them. All teams from 5th to 12th place could protect, say, 10 players, that could not be picked. The number of protected players could be higher or lower based on how much incentive we want to bake into fighting for 4th thru 11th place.
-
Remember that 1) Since this is $20 league, prizes come from luxury taxes and 2) Luxury taxes are applied to the following year's prizes.
-
We should pay it out in beer and pizza
-
At least 6? Why not all 12? We’ll just give everyone their money back at the end of the year. Each owner can decide whether to go purchase themselves a participation trophy!
-
I vote for percentages paid out to at least six teams, even if it's only enough to cover the entry fee. I'd prefer small payouts to more teams to make it even worth, for example, trying for 9th place over 10th. Seems like we need percentages since the pot size will vary from year to year.
-
Open question is how to apply the prize pool.
-
This is my summary of the cap debate: (1) Hard salary cap at $425 until June 1. (2) Hard salary cap at $500 June 1 and after; Commissioner will roll back any non-compliant trade (2) Tax is on every dollar increase in a teams total salary over $425. (3) Taxes are due immediately; Commissioner will roll back any trade in which taxes are not paid in the 48-hour trade waiting period. (4) Taxes are applied to next season's prize pool.

feb 9 works for me
-
Either date - 2/2 or 2/9 - is fine with me, though I’d prefer to draft on a Sunday to end a weekend than on a Saturday right in the middle of one. And I don’t get why we’d start at 8 pm eastern, meaning we’re drafting to around midnight and then reconvening to do the rest on another day. I’d prefer to have a single draft date than try to get everyone together for two occasions. Like start at 4 in the afternoon and go until it’s over
-
I’d prefer the following wknd if possible, but it looks like I’m the super minority on this
-
Any date and time that works for everybody is fine with me. Prior to the draft, whatever date is decided, I'd like to see a final version of our league salary cap rules in writing. I know several parameters have been discussed, but just uncertain what we've decided on. I'm fine with whatever it is, just want to know for sure as I start thinking about a draft strategy. Thanks.
