Hey all, just want to let everyone know that we plan to push the start of the draft until tomorrow (10am) as we want to make sure that everyone gets a chance to make their selection.
-
@HBSharks You are now on the clock. Please have your pick in by 4pm central time :)
-
Happy Prospect Draft Day! We are going to get the Draft up and running this morning. Since we have a couple teams that are still working to get operational on slack, we will do the first round of the draft on the message board then move to Slack for rounds 2-10. If you're having difficulties w/ slack let me know. Let's have the 1st pick on the clock starting at 10am central time. HB Sharks you will be on the clock. Make your pick and tell the next pick that they are on the clock. Good luck!
-
So how are we doing the draft? Posting to the message board?

There are also a couple teams that havent shared their slack information. If you haven't joined ottoneu slack: https://community.ottoneu.com/t/ottoneu-on-slack/4596. This will be helpful for prospect drafts, league communications, as well as a good ottoneu resource. We will also send around a poll in the coming days to figure out when our auction dates are going to be since the first year draft takes about 8 hours.

I signed up for Slack, but I am very unfamiliar with the platform. I'm willing to give it a try if it works well for the group. Seems like it would be good to all be crystal clear on the prospects that are not available in the prospect draft. Would it be okay if I list them here for clarity? Thx

I don't want to give up on the slack channel just yet. It's really useful for one of my other leagues
-
Seems like slack isnt going to work since most people didnt respond or probably dont have it. Seems like easiest way to go is just through an email chain, just my opinion.

Will the MiLB draft be conducted via email, in Slack or on this message board?
-
This sounds good to me. Can we also firm a date for the full 40 man draft so I can clear the calendar? I think splitting into two sessions would make it easier.

Clock will stop from midnight to 6am (central time), however, picks can be made during these hours. We will allow each team 1 two hr extension for the 10 rounds, but we hope these do not need to be used. We want to do the draft on slack in our league channel, but if there are non-slack users, we can discuss alternatives, most likely Ottoneu community so that the next drafter can be tagged and alerted to their clock starting. If you have any questions, please let us know.
-
So the vote for order of the draft was a tie 5-5 with one indifferent vote. Drew and I were hoping that it would get settled before our vote, but we vote to do the prospect draft first w/ the top 24 prospects (2 per team) according to Fangraphs BOARD restricted. Draft will start Monday. It will be snake style (if you have 1st pick in round 1 you have last pick in round 2). Draft order will be random and announced this weekend. Each pick will have a 6 hr limit.

Slack channel would be great. Send me your slack handle to me (jd15 on slack) to get added to the channel. As far prospect drafts go, the plan right now is to have two each year, but maybe we can re-evaluate next offseason. In regards to acquiring additonal 10MiLB players - you may not have more than 10 on your MiLB roster. If you acquire someone via trade you will have to call up or drop someone. Reminder that prospect draft will be a slow draft to help save partner brownie points :) - jeff
-
Is everyone on Slack? It would make our discussions much easier, and will make it way easier to schedule our auction times. I don’t know how to set up a private channel, anybody savvy with that?
-
Aloha - Matt here from California as well. Go Dodgers! Second year playing Ottoneu, and am excited for the new league. I am indifferent on MLB or MiLB draft first. I think it might make sense to do the MLB first so whoever wants to bid on the top prospects can and then we can focus on the leftovers in the later MiLB draft. I probably wont have enough brownie points left with my wife to do a MLB auction draft and then do a formal MiLB draft later on. The regular draft takes a long time!
-
Hi everyone, Adam here. Excited to join the league! My preference is MLB auction first, then no need to restrict MiLB draft players. Not strong feelings in either case. Regarding the MiLB draft - are we planning to have 2 each year? Wouldn't it make sense to have just the one in the offseason? New players in summer are a small number and can be auctioned/carried if desired. Also question on the limit of 10 - can we trade to exceed ten and retain (but forfeit ability for further drafting)?
-
Hey all- Chris from Hermosa Beach, CA here, go Dodgers! Stoked on this league, seems like a good, active bunch and really excited to see how this MiLB structure works out. Pretty new to Ottoneu but baseball obsessed so I think I'll be just fine. I think I'd prefer the option to have the prospect "draft" first, then do our auction. Let's get these votes in so we can lock down our Auction date(s). I'm out of the country for a good portion of March so need to make sure all jives acco
-
Hey all! Happy Monday. We have our group of 12 managers set. Currently the vote for which draft comes first is 4-3 in favor of prospect draft with limited restrictions (top 20-24) being first along with one indifferent. Managers who have yet to vote for preference please do so, so we can start scheduling events. Thanks! - jeff
-
So I should plan to tank for rutschman now???? Lololool
-
An additional note: We also will do a second prospect draft in season, after the MLB draft (likely at the all star break) so that people can add to their MiLB roster if they have players that are called up, traded, or dropped. The draft order will be the reverse of league standings.
-
"straight top 20-24" are excluded, not the top 20-24 with no MLB experience. a reminder though that prospects outside of that range that have mlb experience (Soroka, Mejia, Reyes, etc.) will be excluded from 10MiLB draft as well. we appreciate the patience and input during this time period. we want to make the league as good as possible and your input will hopefully make this a long lasting league :) - jeff
-
20-24 is cool with me. Would we just go straight top 20-24 on the FG Board list or omit guys that played at MLB level last year (Robles, Tucker etc) and count the next guy in?
-
Ya reason we would need to do the draft sooner bc prospect draft is gonna be a slow draft. As for # of restricted prospects, Drew and i are fine reconsidering. We chose 30 as a round number that seemed reasonable. However, we don't think it should go below 20. 20-24 (~2 per team) like Mike said seems like a good compromise. So you all know where we are looking for rankings: https://www.fangraphs.com/prospects/the-board/2018-in-season-prospect-list?type=0 (need to change to prospects lists tab)
-
I am also with Chris in that I'd like to do the minor league draft first, but limit the number of exemptions. 30 seems like a lot, 18-24 (1.5-2 per team) makes a lot more sense to me.
-
I’m totally fine with either option. Chris makes a good point on the downside of an early draft. Is the early 40-man draft needed because we are going to slow draft the 10MiLB roster?

i think the issue having the 40man auction very early is if u spend top dollar on someone who gets hurt in spring training it would be a potential death blow to a franchise for the 2019 season and make the league less competitive overall. Maybe the compromise is just setting aside the top 10-15? prospects who we all assume would be nominated in an auction (Vlad, Eloy, Tatis etc) rather than going 30 deep and having guys potentially go unrostered.

I am indifferent

Option 2 for me

My preference would be Option 1, because we’d let the auction decide who the top prospects are that warrant multi-team bidding interest. Then all the remaining prospects will be eligible for the prospect draft and we won’t get any Top 30 “leftovers” hanging out there at season start.

I prefer Option 1 but will do whichever. My guess is that not all 30 of the excluded prospects will go at the auction and you'll have a few that will then be free agents. I assume these would then be eligible to be put up for bid.
-
Option 2 is my vote
-
Option 2 is my preference
-
Please respond on the message board which you prefer:
Option 1: Normal Otto Auction followed by the Prospect Draft (restriction: no MLB experience allowed on MiLB roster) - if this is the decision we will have to have 40 man draft early
Option 2: Prospect Draft (restrictions: no MLB experience, Fangraphs Top 30 excluded) followed by normal otto auction - if this is the decision prospect draft will start after league has 12 managers
This is a majority rules decision. Thanks for participating!
-
Well the great news it that it seems like we'll have an active league :)
Our original plan was to have the prospect draft before the normal 40 man otto auction so the 40 man roster would be less bogged down by prospects who dont have present value for the team. However, Drew and I want to take everyone's opinion into account so we can do a vote. Prompt to come in next message board posting. Rationale for excluding top 30 is what Geoff said. Fangraphs would be source for Top 30.
-
I think makes sense to exclude top 30 prospects because they will probably garner significant bidding in the auction.
-
I'm sure you have good reason, but why would we exclude the top 30 prospects? And what rankings would you use to make that determination?

I had assumed we do our 40 man roster auction first and all MiLB players would be eligible in the auction. Then we would hold the MiLB draft for any qualifying minor league players not on a roster through the auction.
-
That is correct. There will be an MLB draft for all MLB players (as well as the top 30 prospects or so) after the prospect draft. That will be held as a standard auction draft, similar to other Ottoneu leagues.
-
Question : I assume that we will hold a second draft with MLB players to get to our 40 man roster ? If not, well I don't understand the concept

Hey all. We recently had two owners drop out because they didn't realize this was a FGPts + MiLB roster league. In light of this, please review the summary belowoutlining the MiLB portion of the league. If you do not wish to participate because of this, please shoot us a note so we can take appropriate action. For those that are okay with it, please try to recruit others you think may be strong, active owners and would like this format. Thanks!
-
MiLB rosters: The roster will be 10 MiLB players max and can only be comprised of players with 0 MLB experience. Each player will be carried at $0 but can be "called up" to your main roster and will have a salary of $1. The player needs to be called up or dropped if he gets MLB experience. The prospect draft will be a snake draft where the original MiLB rosters are set up. We are going to be excluding the top 30 prospects or so from the prospect pool as well as anyone with MLB experien
